Israel facing ‘external’ and ‘internal’ threats – Middle East Monitor
Israel faces “external” and “internal” threats, Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi told active and reservist men yesterday.
In a public letter, Halevi said that Israel had not known “those days of external threats accompanied by an internal storm.”
While thousands of Israelis stormed the streets in protest against the sacking of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Halevi said: “This is a time of responsibility.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been sidelined for his call to halt the judicial overhaul that has led to mass protests and reservists refusing to serve.
“Our enemies must know that we are standing guard and that no one is abandoning,” said Halevi.
“I am responsible that every mission given to you will be aimed at protecting the security of Israel and its citizens, and that it will be in accordance with the IDF [army] values.”
