A man was shot dead in the northern city of Umm al-Fahm on Sunday, amid a series of violent incidents that have roiled the Arab community.

First responders said 63-year-old Kamal Mahamid was critically injured and taken to Emek Medical Center in Afula, where he was pronounced dead.

The police opened an investigation into the incident.

The incident happened a day after a 38-year-old man was shot dead in the central Arab town of Jaljulia, the second killing in that town within three days.

According to the anti-violence campaign group the Abraham Initiative, 43 Israeli Arabs have been killed by violence and crime since the beginning of the year.

Violence against Arab communities has been on the rise in recent years. Many blame the police, who they say have failed to tackle powerful criminal organizations and largely ignore the violence, including family feuds, mafia turf wars, and violence against women. .
