‘Political detention during Ramadan a crime’ – Middle East Monitor

Palestinian political activist Fadwa Al-Barghouti announced on Friday that the political detention carried out by the Palestinian Authority (PA) during Ramadan: “It is an ongoing crime that must be stopped.”

In a press release, Barghouti shared: “Thousands of Palestinians have been forcibly imprisoned in PA prisons. Ten of them are not allowed to have iftar with their families just because of their political affiliation.”

She strongly criticized the PA for detaining Palestinian fighters while protecting Israeli settlers as part of security coordination with Israel.

Describing the scene where the PA held former Palestinian prisoner Ayman Abu Aram and the farewell he offered his young son on the eve of Ramadan, she expressed: “It was a heartbreaking scene.”

Al-Barghouti said: “In return, we see that the PA security services are escorting a settler’s car to get him out of Ramallah after he entered the Palestinian city by mistake.”

According to Safa News Agency, Palestinian factions and rights groups have confirmed that more than 30 Palestinian political prisoners are being held within PA prisons.

The Committee for Families of Palestinian Political Prisoners in the Occupied West Bank recorded 247 political violations committed by the PA during the month of February.
