Report claims Virgil van Dijk tried to convince Tottenham ‘machine’ into signing for Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has spoken to Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven about a move to Anfield in the summer.

Liverpool could make a move for Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio after losing Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

That’s according to TEAMtalk, who claim Virgil van Dijk has personally approached Van de Ven about a move to Anfield.

The Reds focused largely on midfield signings in the summer, landing Alexis McAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

Liverpool seem to have explored the centre-back market, however, with a natural left footer on the radar.

Liverpool lost to Micky Van de Ven

Links with Micky van de Ven were prominent over the summer.

Liverpool appointed Jorg Schmadtke as their interim sporting director, and he was the man who brought Van de Ven to Wolfsburg.

The London Evening Standard even revealed in the summer that Tottenham feared Liverpool would seize their talks to sign Van de Ven.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney claimed in October that Liverpool were ‘very interested’ in signing Van de Ven but he opted to move to Tottenham instead.

Liverpool couldn’t promise regular first-team football, but Tottenham are willing to throw it straight into the team.

TEAMtalk now claim that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has even spoken to Van de Ven to try and convince him to join the Reds.

The pair have only recently been Dutch team-mates but Van de Ven has allegedly been approached by Van Dijk to sell him as he moves to Merseyside.

The magic attack didn’t work and Tottenham were able to get a deal worth £34.5 million rising to £43 million, which now looks like a great deal.

Although Van de Ven is now injured, his teammate James Maddison has been praised as a ‘machine’ and was one of the signings of the season.

Liverpool could turn to Goncalo Inacio now

A TEAMtalk report reveals that Liverpool are still in the market for a left-footed centre-back and are now eyeing sports star Goncalo Inacio.

The Portuguese defender has allegedly been on Liverpool’s radar for over two years now with regular scouting taking place.

Liverpool watched Inacio at club and international level while the Reds were on the move.

Inacio looks set to cost more than Van de Ven, however, with a £52 million release clause needed to lure him away from Sporting.

Liverpool must now consider whether to activate that clause in January or wait until the summer, with other clubs believed to be keen on the 22-year-old.
